President
Mark L. Brock
Mark grew up in Huntsville, Alabama and graduated from Randolph School. While living in Alabama, he combed the antique shops in nearby Birmingham, Nashville, and Atlanta for art and antiques to sell in his antique shop, Le Bibelot. After high school, Mark served in the Army for four years and was stationed in Missouri, California, Texas, and finally Korea. He graduated from Boston College's Carroll School of Management in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, with a degree in Marketing. During the summers, he worked for his extended family in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, working in an antique book shop. After college, he was recruited by Northwestern Mutual Life and worked there for a year, while maintaining his art business on the side. However, it became clear that he could not be a part-time dealer, so he turned his avocation into his profession and started BROCK & CO.
In 2000, Boston Magazine awarded Mark their prestigious “Best of Boston” award for Best Private Art Dealer, a category they created to recognize the growing trend in private art dealing. Mark's professional affiliations include the Art & Antique Dealers League of America, an associate membership in La Confederation Internationale des Negociants en Oeuvres d'Art (C.I.N.O.A), and a member of New Hampshire Antiques Dealers Association (NHADA).
In addition to co-founding The Fine Arts Trader, Mark was involved in the original business plan and design templates for Artnet, now one of the Internet’s most visited art websites. He has also lectured on the subject of entrepreneurship and private art dealing to a variety of audiences, including the Boston College School of Management and Sotheby's Institute.
In addition to advising private collectors and operating a by-appointment gallery, Mark participates in a selected group of art fairs each year. He has been a regular exhibitor with the Boys and Girls Club of Boston Decorative Art and Antique Show in Boston since 1995; the USArtists Show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, since 2002; and has also exhibited at The International Fine Art Show in Boston.
Mark is a Patron of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The McMullen Museum of Art at Boston College (where he also serves on the Patrons Committee); Concord Art Association (Life Member); and the Carlisle Historical Society. He is a Founding Life Member of the Boston College Club, as well as a member of the 100 Club. He is an advisor to Internet services and software company BiT Group.
Mark’s personal collection is composed of American art from the first half of the 20th century.
